Hi, my name is Marie from Versailles Medical Spa. I would like to share a story with you. A few days ago I went to the supermarket and I got approached by a lady that asked me what I got my mask from. We gave away all the masks that we had at the spa. Unfortunately, we had to make our own, and I wanted to help the community. We tried to order more, and there’s nothing available. Unfortunately, I’m not a seamstress. It took me a few days to really sit and create and see how I’m going to put a mask together. I’ve tried every different things I had in the house because nothing is open, we can’t go anywhere. And I was checking something, and it was something ironic when I found the wee-wee pad for the dog and this wee-wee made sense to me because I looked and I saw that the back of it had the plastic and the inside of it had the cotton. And the cotton is basically what’s breathable. If you put the mask on, you need to breathe. And at the same time you need that plastic material to protect your face.
So I get an idea and I tried to kind of put it together and it worked. And this is what came out of it, a perfect mask that is made at home from something I think everybody or 90% of the people have a dog and if they don’t, they can order them, Amazon. I made a template for this mask and whoever’s interested of getting that template you can just provide us with your email and we’ll send you a copy of the template.
For the mask we’re going to need four pieces because it’s going to be the outer piece and the inner piece. What you’re going to do, you’re going to take the template, you’re going to talk, put it on top of the pad. When the pad is folded, the cotton part is in the inside and the plastic is on the outside. So what were you going to do when you folded it in two, you’re going to see that you’re going to have four pieces from that template that you have inside. Do you see? So when you’re cutting, you’re cutting into four pieces.
Again, this is one, two and then you got the three and the four, three and four. So what I’m going to do, I’m going to put it together. And remember the part that’s the plastic outside, this part, you got to cut off. Now you’re fold it in half and you can cut it again.
Now we have four parts of this. So what I’m going to do, I’m going to take my scissors and I can either go with cutting these pieces with a cutter or if I want, I could put them together. If I’m not comfortable putting the whole four pieces together and cutting with the template, then I can do it one by one, but it’s really not hard.
Now we have the pieces ready. You got your outer piece, which is the plastic that’s going to protecti our face. And then you got the softer piece that’s inside. What we’re going to do now, we’re going to take the piece that has the cotton, we’re going to put the pieces this way, the plastic inside, and the cotton side to the outside. So you could do it either manually by getting just a regular thread and a needle. And sew the edges from the side that you can see here, this is the side that’s going to be sewed to cover your face. So this is the actual template. Well you going to be sewing from this side. So I’m going to do this with the sewing machine. I’m going to show you what I’m talking about.
So now we sewed the side. What I’m going to show you is that when you flip it around, this is what you’re going to get. So put it on and this is your protection. And what we’re going to do, we’re going to do the same way that we did this one. We’re going to do the exact same thing with the second one. So the first piece, we sewed the cotton, we sewed the cotton from the outside and the plastic from the inside. The second one, we’re going to turn it around and we’re going to have the cotton inside and the plastic outside.
So now the piece that has the cotton on the outside and the piece that has the plastic on the outside with the seam from both sides, we’re going to put them together and make sure they meet on the top, on the sides, and basically everywhere. And we’re going to take it and we’re going to start sewing them together.
So now we sewed those two pieces together like you see on both sides, they have the seam that we had before. We sewed before basically. So you’re going to flip them around and you’re going to see that you’re going to have the plastic part outside and the cotton part inside. You see that? And the way this is going to be is when you’re putting it on your face it’s going to have the cotton on the inside and you’re going to have the plastic on the outside. So now we’re going to go back. We’re going to flip it again to finish the job. We’re going to go on the other side of the mask and we’re going to sew this part also together. Go back and we’re going to sew this one. What are we going to do, we’re going to flip it to the other side. There you go.
So now the last part, it’s going to be the actual rubber band. So any elastic band that you find in the house or anything you could have for your hair anything that’s elastic can work. So what are we going to do, we’re going to pull the side of the mask? We’re going to cut the band according to the distance that you want. You put it and you’re going to sew the first part, and then you’re going to sew this one. Let’s do that. So that’s the way it looks. Now are we going to do the other side and we’re going to sew that too. There we go.
